I want to write fitness and nutrition books. Should I start a blog page first or write a book.?

any ideas would help.thanks

I suggest that you write a blog first. This way, you can work out your ideas, theories, etc. People can comment on the topics you’re writing about, and that way you know if you have information that is no longer found to be medically or scientifically correct. You can also close up any gaps or questions that readers might have.

Then, I suggest taking each topic that you are discussing and research it more thoroughly to expand it into more than just an article, but rather a full chapter or book. I don’t recommend this route for fiction writers, but I do for anyone writing non-fiction, historical, or health related topics because no one is perfect, and sometimes (especially in fitness and nutrition) facts change over time, and you don’t want to submit something that could make someone sick, or simply be a "yesterday" fitness routine proven to be ineffective. There is a major risk of losing credibility unless you stay current on topics in this area.

I think too many people make the mistake of blogging before they have anything to say.

I say, write the book – or start some intense research into your topic – and use the blog to get feedback on some of your ideas. It can potentially become your best marketing tool.

I would recommend going with the blog first. Here are some reasons.

    1. You can use the popular content from your blog in your book.
    2. Your blog can help you convince your publishers to publish you.
    3. Once you have your book done, you can use your blog to sell it. Many sites sell a digital version of a book through their blog, making good money.
    4. You can get feedback on your ideas from your blog. Like a peer review.

I would actually work on both at the same time. Your blog will help establish you as credible and you can buzz about your upcoming book. To attract your niche market you need to become recognized as the number one expert in your field. The blog is a good way, but you need to write your book at the same time so you have more to offer your following.
