Special Delivery From The North Pole
Have you ever written a letter to Santa? I know I have, many times in fact. I would write letters to the North Pole telling Santa about the things I wanted for Christmas. For years my only response to any of these letters to Santa were the presents I got for Christmas.
One year I got a letter from Santa back. It thanked me for my letters and for being one of the nicest children on his list. There was even a North Pole Postmark. I loved that letter from Santa and showed it to my parents, siblings, and friends. What I didn’t learn until years later was that my parents actually wrote me that letter from Santa.
That letter from Santa is one thing I have kept over all the years. But why? My letter from Santa has survived many closet clean outs, and de-cluttering projects, because that letter from Santa defined that Christmas for me. To a child, feeling like Santa knows them personally is very exciting, and that idea occurred to me when I received my letter from Santa, tucked in my stocking one Christmas morning.
My parents wrote me that particular letter from Santa, but there are actually various organizations from which parents can purchase or order a letter from Santa for their child. Each letter from Santa will differ from company to company, but each one of them does it’s job: to make a child extra happy on Christmas.
Many of these “letter from Santa” companies operate online, allowing you to personalize each letter with the name of your child, and a few other things which will make your child’s letter from Santa unique. Most of these letters from Santa will be delivered a few days before Christmas, and each letter from Santa comes with a postage stamp from the North Pole. Whether you decide to give your child a letter from Santa just once, or make it a Christmas tradition, the look on their faces when they discover that Santa Claus wrote to them specifically is priceless.
However, if you want to give your child extra Christmas joy with a letter from Santa without spending extra money, you can write your own and tell your child anything you want them to know, including your Christmas wish for them.
A letter from Santa doesn’t have to remain in the family, though. Many children could use some extra cheer at Christmas time, especially ones who don’t get to experience Christmas the way others might. This includes children in the hospital or in foster programs. Christmas is a wonderful time to serve and to look outside of your personal situation, and one way that some people have found to serve is to write a letter from Santa to a child who needs an extra bright spot in their Christmas.
Writing a letter from Santa does not take much time. It is a simple gesture, but it lets children know they are special and that they are loved. If you want to make this Christmas a truly special one for your child, try it out. Give them a letter from Santa, and have the video camera ready to tape their excitement when they realize that the magic of Christmas is real.
