The CNA Certification Exam: Proficiency And Anxiety

You need to be able to perform all of these skills in a very by-the-books fashion, as you’re going to be evaluated for your ability to perform these skills in the official manner. Each skill has a set of steps that should be performed as indicated. Familiarizing yourself with them through consistent practice is essential. Do not delude yourself into overlooking the little details. Evaluators take particular note of the little details or small steps because they are often omitted by test takers. You can still undo overlooking a detail, by starting over, if you point out your error to the evaluator and there is still time.

Because there is so much pressure to perform your skills precisely, it’s easy enough to mess up. Evaluators know this, and most will take into account the fact that you’re going to be nervous. Try not to place too much stock on this though as it might lead you to becoming complacent instead of relaxed. While most evaluators will make concessions if you are nervous and mess up, some won’t. The ability to stay focused and relaxed while performing the procedures will impress them.

Completing your exam just leads to another period of stress- waiting to find out whether or not you passed. It’s best to relax as much as possible during this time and to try to not think about the exam. To continue to be anxious even after the test is irrational as the outcome can no longer be affected in any way. It is better to relax knowing you can always take the test again.

Familiarizing yourself with how each step of each procedure is done precisely will adi you in doing well in this type of test that puts a premium on strict adherence.
