Electronic Smoking Cigarettes – A Healthier Alternative?
Tuesday, January 17th, 2012Tobacco corporations won't admit that smoking is an addiction but everyone knows it is so. And it is an obsession that is powerful enough to keep millions smoking tobacco and risking their healthfulness. The tar in fag smoke is a carcinogen and tobacco has many other dangerous substances. That's the reason why no matter how agreeable smoking might be nearly every smoker has thought about giving up. Sadly, that's quicker said than done. There is however an alternative now – in electronic smoking cigarettes.
With virtually everything else benefiting from the swift technological advances, electronic cigarettes should come as no surprise. Allow me to explain the idea behind it. If you are a smoker who has tried to give up, you know that it’s not just the rush from the nicotine that makes it harder to quit. It's also a mental thing. Holding the gasper or pipe, lighting up after dinner or during a break, tasting and twirling the smoke. So what if you could have all that, but without the tar and other cancer inducing agents of tobacco smoke?
Here's where electronic smoking comes in. It doesn't do away with nicotine, so there are no withdrawal pains. Unlike patches or gum, it also does not take away the physical aspect of a ciggie, a cigar, a pipe or a cigarillo; it does replace them with an e-cigarette, e-cigar, e-pipe and e-cigarillo. These smoking products use complicated, patented technology to atomise special liquids, as expected called an e-liquid, to produce smoke and deliver nicotine just as if you were smoking a genuine cigarette. For those who like the comforting glow of burning tobacco when they breathe, those e-smoking products even have a little light that simulates the glow when you breathe. Not mandatory as far as I am concerned but the makers allegedly thought it added a pleasant touch.
So the idea here is to simulate smoking, down to getting that nice nicotine rush and the smoke, without actually burning tobacco with all its associated negative health aspects. But if there's still smoke, isn’t that bad for you anyway? Well, it’d likely be better not to smoke at all, but if tar from smoking is the main concern, there is none.
How do you use electronic smoking products? Do you simply flip out an e-pack, smoke and then drop the ciggie butt? Nope; it’s all different. Since the e-cigarette has a rechargeable battery and a liquid container for the smoking liquid, you use it again and again again. In that sense it is more like a pipe where you do not drop the pipe but simply put in more tobacco. Likewise, you don't drop electronic smoking products; you simply put in a new e-cartridge and occasionally recharge the battery (there’s even a USB-eCig that does not need a battery; you just plug it into a USB port on your personal computer).
Do all e-cigarettes (there also are “e-MiniCig” tiny cigarettes) taste the same? They don't. There are 2 dozen tastes to select from, including those of some leading cig brands, and there are different nicotine levels, from none whatsoever to extra-high. There is no doubt that electronic smoking cigarettes need getting comfy with, and the technology is probably still in its youth, but smokers who are actually concerned about tar may wish to have a look at e-cigs.
